Dog Tracking Fields

I am looking for areas to practice tracking w/my dogs. I am currently using Middletown Park, Ballenger Creek, Utica, Old National Pike District Park, Adamstown Park, Antietam Battlefield & 2 areas in WV. Urbana is too small to lay 2 different tracks for 2 dogs. I usually track 2X per week, on a weekday in the AM (to avoid the crowds). Does anyone know of a different area w/large grass areas? I am looking for areas that are larger than soccer & baseball fields. I only track from late… Continue

What to Get an Animal Lover for Christmas?

How about "Animals in Translation"?

I'm currently reading this book and enjoying it very much. While we can never be absolutely certain of what's going on inside those furry heads, the author uses both science and her experiences living with autism to map out the differences between our brains and those of our pets to help us see things the way they do. While it is a scientific book, it's an easy and enjoyable… Continue

Monday, Nov. 30th is the Last Day to Comment on New "Dog Rules" for MD State Parks!

Check out this document first, then go here to share your comments with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The changes are certainly an improvement, but they intentionally kept this low-profile. (I'm sure to make their lives easier by avoiding too many… Continue

Torn Paw-pads...

Hey all!

Hope everyone is having a great summer! Sullivan tore a paw-pad last weekend and he's been on R&R for the past 7 days or so.

He had been playing by the pool all day so his paws were extra soft. Then I took him on an excursion to PetSmart to do some shopping/socializing. As usual, he commenced to play his favorite game (after "ball" and "swimming") which is "root around under the shelving and see if there might be something to eat down there". Not sure exactly… Continue

Doggie's Den Daycare

So Sullivan went to Doggie's Den Daycare in Germantown today for the first time. He appears to have had a blast! (Thanks for the suggestion, Brooke!)

While it's no substitute for the quality time that he (and I) get when we run into you folks, I want him to have many more regular dog-friends and 'dog-on-dog' interaction than I've been able to give him. I'm hoping the occasional trip to spend 8 or 9 hours with 25 other dogs does… Continue
